Harry Hamilton (Edmonton, AB)
Harry Hamilton was born in Scotland and emigrated to Edmonton at the age of eight. Moving from what was then an industrialized, monochromatic society to a bold new world of colour of modern design fueled his imagination and inspired him to learn the skills needed to contribute to that creative world.
Harry has been designing furniture since the late ‘90’s. It is an interest rooted in a long career as a locksmith where he invented and created solutions for his colleagues in the industry. He builds larger-scale prototypes in the workshop and small representations on a 3-D printer and have a number of patents pending.
Ever a student of design and a creative problem-solver, Harry seeks unique, one-of-a-kind furnishings for his home. When he can’t find it he creates it himself, designing and building primarily in aluminum and steel.
Furnishings should be at once beautiful and functional - a piece of art when not in use. Harry’s designs are sleek, with futuristic clean lines and contrasts in colour and texture, often pairing brushed aluminum with high gloss paint or high pressure laminate, concealing cords and fasteners.
He is fascinated by transformational design, whereby one piece can serve multiple purposes. For example, the OVOID table easily separates and tucks neatly into the sofa for an easy TV meal, leisurely coffee and book or to rest the laptop.
