Public Art Installed on Capital Boulevard in Time for Sesquicentennial  

The pieces are part of a series to commemorate Canada’s 150th July 1. In total, five sculptures have been commissioned for the Capital Boulevard, Edmonton – and two were installed this week.

The installed pieces, Transect by artists Julia Reimer and Tyler Rock and Star Gazer – Koo-koo-sint by Dawn Detarando and Brian McArthur, will also eventually stand with three others.

Speaking Notes: Nickle Galleries’ Recent Acquisitions - Calgary, AB

Since opening its doors to the public in 1979, Nickle Galleries has benefited from the generosity of countless individuals who have donated precious art objects, time, and occasionally, funds.  Each new arrival not only expands the collections, they help to rejuvenate them—facilitating new connections and narratives.   Speaking Notes introduces a selection of recent donations and purchases, and promises of stories to come.

Recent aquisitions in the exhibition include Mary by Kari Woo.

Katherine Russell Commissioned by Sparwood Arts & Heritage Council 

Unveiling Ceremony: Saturday, July 1, 1pm
Location: Outside Sparwood Rec Centre, Sparwood, BC

Katherine Russell has been awarded a commission by the Sparwood Arts & Heritage Council to create an artwork to celebrate Canada's 150th. The work in progress is fused and sandcarved glass panels, depicting the Elk Valley's offerings, with a theme of sustainability and protection. The artwork will tour the Elk Valley communities for the summer, then find it's permanent home in Sparwood come Fall.
