Kudos: Eighty-One by Jack Sures, Slate Fine Art Gallery - Regina, SK
Date: November 12 - December 06, 2015
Location: Slate Fine Art Gallery, 2078 Halifax Street, Regina, SK
In celebration of his 81st birthday, ACC member Jack Sures presents 81 pieces of his surface embellished ceramic works. With a long career as an educator, innovative clay artist and printmaker, Jack Sures was instrumental in the Regina Clay movement of the1960s. Rethinking the artistic approach to the medium of clay, as inspired by California funk art, he and other Regina based artists, Victor Cicansky, Joe Fafard, David Gilhooly and Marilyn Levine, took ceramics away from a traditional, functional role toward a new sculptural one. His commissions include murals for the Provincial Office Building in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan and the Museum of Civilization in Ottawa, Canada.
