Craft Collaborations
September 10 to October 14, 2020
Craft Collaborations was an online auction fundraiser in celebration of Alberta’s enormous creative talent and the Alberta Craft Council’s 40th anniversary.
We were humbled by the support of the sector and with how many of the artists chose to donate their portion back to the Alberta Craft Council and wish to thank all of the artists & supporters who contributed to the success of this inaugural online fundraiser. We are excited to announce that Craft Collaborations will return in Fall 2021 with another exciting online auction, exhibition and new programming!
Alberta Craft Council Annual General Meeting 2020

Join us virtually for our 2020 Annual General Meeting. The purpose of the AGM is to report on our previous fiscal year (April 2019 - March 2020). Prior to the meeting we will send out a PDF copy of the annual report to all registered attendees.

What appears to be a simple object is actually quite problematic. As a garment made by individuals who are using materials readily found in their surroundings, and in designs that, like the materials, have not been tested for their effectiveness in preventing infection, the face mask varies immensely from maker to maker.
As a researcher and Associate Professor in Material Culture, Dr. Bissonnette’s webinar shares her research about the science behind the homemade cloth face mask. Dr. Bissonnette is an Associate Professor at the University of Alberta. She teaches Material Culture and Curatorship and is also the Curator of the University’s Anne Lambert Clothing and Textiles Collection.

Craft as Therapy | Webinar with Allison Tunis

Join artist and art therapist Allison Tunis for a discussion about craft as a therapeutic tool for mental health. Allison has a wealth of personal and professional experience using art and craft for mental wellness, and is here to share some of the different ways that craft can be used to benefit one’s mental health. She'll also share practical suggestions for overcoming some of the challenges we face as creators when dealing with difficult times, such as the current pandemic.
Following the presentation, there will be a question and answer period for participants to address their own personal questions regarding craft and mental health.
About Allison: Allison Tunis has a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of Alberta, and a graduate diploma in Art Therapy from the Vancouver Art Therapy Institute. She works mainly in cross-stitch embroidery, but also explores mixed media involving acrylic painting, gel transfers and beyond. She has also self-published a body positive colouring book entitled Body Love: A Fat Activism Colouring Book, available locally in Edmonton and on Amazon in many countries.
Allison was the 2018-2019 artist in residence at Harcourt House Artist-Run Centre and was awarded the 2018 Alberta Craft Council Early Achievement Award and 2019 Edmonton Artist Trust Fund Award.
