Alberta Craft Mural Project
Alberta Craft is excited to bring as much vibrancy to the exterior of our Edmonton location as can already be found in the interior! In celebration of Alberta Craft we created a collaborative mural to wrap our building, bringing new energy and visitors to our gallery and community. We are excited to put the creativity of our artists and organization on full display on the exterior of the building with Edmonton muralist Emily Chu and her team of apprentices from MacEwan University's Studio Art program. INSPIRATION
The Alberta Craft feature exhibition Ornament & Crime served as inspiration for the mural.
Ornament and Crime was developed for the selected muralist to draw inspiration for the buildings mural design from this themed exhibition, with an open call to Alberta Craft artists the exhibition represents the work of over 40 artists. The exhibition is a thoughtful disruption and celebration of expression, and has given Craft artists the unique opportunity to not only reflect on our practices, unlearn harmful biases, and take the opportunity to break free to decorate our works to the maximum.

LEAD MURALIST - EMILY CHU
Emily Chu is an Edmonton artist, and graduate of the Alberta College of Art and Design, and works in commercial illustration, and specializes in murals, visual art, and illustrations for businesses, magazines, print/web publishers, and more. She is dedicated to community-driven projects in the visual arts, using her creative skills and the power of art to amplify the voices of communities, build stronger local artist networks, and celebrate heritage and diversity through the Arts. Emily is inspired by our local arts and craft scene, and is excited for this opportunity, as it aligns with her artistic and community goals, and her passion for contributing to the vibrant local arts community.
