Larissa Blokhuis (Calgary, AB) is interested in a diverse range of topics, including nature, politics, psychology, and history.  She loves to travel and take photographs.  New experiences and sights feed her creativity.  Larissa is inspired by the evolutionary history of plants, and the repetition of life cycles.  Her current focus on using glass and mixed media by incorporating ceramic, steel, wool, polymer, and wood as needed has allowed her to develop a distinctive style.

Larissa was born on the edge of the prairies in Canada.  After completing her BFA with a major in glass at the Alberta College of Art + Design Larissa moved to the coast temporarily to take a job as a glassblower on Granville Island.  Once establishing a presence on Granville Island, Larissa began pursuing opportunities throughout Western Canada.   She has exhibited extensively in Alberta and BC, and has been Assistant Teacher at Red Deer College and Terminal City Glass Co-op.  She now divides her time between Calgary, AB, and Vancouver, BC.
