Ceramic Artist Louise Brud resides in Calgary, Alberta. She received her Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree with Distinction in ceramics at the Alberta College of Art + Design. After graduating she turned her attention to a career in an art gallery, helping other artists showcase their work. After some years, she realized her need and love of creating and returned to ceramics to focus on a studio practice. Her interests in creating work has included years of glaze development to find new and unique surface treatments and colour combinations. Her interest continues in creating functional work that is tactile, decorative and artful. The design and pattern of nature is her largest influence and from this, Louise has created her “Swirl” series. The work consists of functional ware with a textured swirl vortex and rich overlapping colours.

“Because of the physical interaction of pottery, my inspiration is to create work that has a highly tactile feel. Something that invites a person to not just view the object but to touch it. I hope this will establish both an emotional response and a continuing dialogue between creator and user, creating an intimacy between art and function.” – Louise Brud
