Join the Alberta Craft Calgary Gallery in celebrating our newest SPOTLIGHT exhibition Charis Birchall Spaces Between.
In “Spaces Between” Charis finds inspiration visualizing shapes using the negative space between words in printed blocks of text. She manipulates these shapes to create repeat patterns, which she prints onto fabric using a silkscreen.
In producing the printed yardages, she was finally able to make sense of—and come to terms with—the unusual habits of her mind. As viewers examine these pieces, she wants to encourage them to consider and celebrate what their own mind does that makes them unique.
