Available at the Alberta Craft Gallery - Edmonton

Brenda Danbrook produces a wide variety of hand crafted ceramics from her studio in Opal, Alberta – A tiny little hamlet and farming community north of Edmonton. Brenda studied at the Alberta College of Art + Design, the Australian National University, and Red Deer College, Alberta.

“In my daily practice, I strive to find a balance between form, function and pattern that all comes together in unity like a warm quilt. As a result, the object’s utility is heightened, bringing the user an experience or connection to their daily life.

I am interested in the design elements of pattern and exploring the past and present ceramic iconography, creating a new form of artistic expression. This series explores my Canadian culture and identity. When I think about what it is to be Canadian, it is the layering of many patterns that make up our uniqueness and beauty.”

This series is made from Plainsman Alberta stoneware clay. Each individual piece is hand built or thrown on a potter’s wheel and contains a single or multiple mono slip transfer print. The final pieces are glazed in soda or high reduction fired atmospheric kilns.
