In Japan, we have a long history of pottery mending called "Kintsugi" using natural resin (urushi) and real gold. However, traditional kintsugi requires a long time, handling natural urushi, and high cost of buying fine gold powder. In this workshop, we’ll give a new life to broken pieces by using modern urushi (plant based glue with solvent) and brass or silver powder to finish. Bringing your own broken ceramics! (Non-food contact items are preferred). Don't have any sad pieces? No problem. We’ll have some beautiful pieces from local potters for you to use. ($5-$15 material fee)
Kazuki Nomura is a textile designer and the owner of Calgary based organic Japanese tea brand, ISSA GREEN. She has been doing traditional kintsugi for fun and would like to share the philosophy and technique in the local community.
