April Glaicar is a circumpolar and Antarctic multi-disciplinary artist & photographer from Hay River, Northwest Territories, Canada. Her work has a strong connection to the northern world, the seventh continent and Arctic conservation while embracing traditional knowledge and cultures.
She is currently working on her “Arctic Raw” jewellery collection – an evolving curation of Arctic focused artisan jewellery featuring the raw beauty of northern and Antarctic landscapes captured in solid glass, semi and precious gemstones & metals alongside natural elements found nearby.
Her circumpolar work includes snorkelling in Arctic Norway as an Artist-In-Residence and Co-Chair of Arts Programming with Sea Women Expeditions, an international STEAM project that observed and collected scientific data on Orca and Humpback whales. April is creating compelling art as another way to communicate the findings and experiences.
While on an expedition in March of 2023, April may have become the first artisan ever to create fine jewellery components using a piece of glacial iceberg while surrounded by the surreal and icy beauty of Antarctica.
