Jamie Hurlburt
Available at the Alberta Craft Gallery - Edmonton
Jamie Hurlburt is a self-taught handweaver who lives and works in the heart of Edmonton, Alberta. They tried weaving for the first time in 2018 and have not been able to stop since. After picking up their first loom, Jamie quickly became immersed in the world of craft. Working in natural fibers on fifty-year-old Canadian hand looms, they weave scarves, blankets, and household textiles. Alongside their studio practice, they are a passionate craft educator. They teach everything from beginner workshops to specialized structure sessions at Gather Textiles, and regularly run weaving courses at Sorrento Retreat Centre in the Shuswap. They are also committed to making weaving more accessible, providing opportunities for people to get hands-on experience by bringing looms out to festivals, churches, and schools. When not weaving, Jamie teaches writing at a local college.
