Robert Jakobsen (Nanaimo, BC) is an artisan native to Nanaimo, British Columbia where he salvages much of the wood used in his work. Logs which are considered to have little market value are milled with his portable bandsaw mill. This device gives him the unique opportunity to start the creative process with the raw log, and allows him to make use of wood not readily available to woodworkers on the coast. Robert creates his work mainly with local woods to illustrate the diversity and beauty of British Columbia’s forest resources and the need for more attention to resource management.
