Jordan Munro, the visionary behind High Country Art, is a small batch ceramic artist whose creative journey was deeply influenced by her childhood spent on a cattle ranch in rural Yellowhead County, Alberta, Canada. Drawing from the rugged landscapes and rich heritage of her upbringing, Jordan's artistic practice is a heartfelt tribute to her roots. Having graduated from Emily Carr University in 2019, Jordan embarked on a transformative artist residency at Medalta in Medicine Hat the following year. It was during this time that her passion for foraging, hunting, and fermenting became deeply intertwined with her ceramic creations.
With an unwavering commitment to authenticity, Jordan meticulously gathers materials from the local landscape, imbuing her work with a profound sense of place. Clay, wood ash, irons, and bone ashes, sourced directly from the region that shaped her, are thoughtfully incorporated into each piece she creates.
Through her artistic alchemy, Jordan seamlessly marries artistry and functionality, crafting ceramic pieces that are as visually captivating as they are purposeful. From exquisitely designed water locking crocks, perfect for preserving the bounty of homemade pickles, to captivating mugs adorned with imagery inspired by the local wildlife, Jordan's work embodies the essence of her surroundings.
High Country Art is a celebration of craftsmanship and a homage to the landscapes that shaped Jordan's creative spirit. Her ceramics serve as a tangible connection between the natural world and the human experience, inviting admiration while enhancing the beauty of everyday life. Jordan Munro's artistry seamlessly weaves together her upbringing, her passion for the land, and her devotion to the craft of ceramics. Through her remarkable creations, she offers a glimpse into the rich tapestry of rural Alberta and invites others to share in the profound connection between art and the natural world.
