Carley Pettitt (Edmonton, AB) is a self-taught textile artist specializing in hand embroidery. Born in Edmonton and raised on the coast of Vancouver Island, Carley Pettitt has always felt close to art and the wildlife around her. Deciding to focus on her passion for wildlife, Carley received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Alberta with a Specialization in Animal Biology in 2012 and pursued a career in zoology. Throughout that journey, she discovered a love for education and wildlife conservation and in 2019, she picked up an embroidery needle and has never looked back.
“I have a busy brain that needed quiet hands – this is why embroidery is such a meditative art for me. The ability to use this versatile art to bring awareness to the wildlife around us truly makes my inner child jump with glee.”
Carley uses her embroidery to advocate for endangered species and educate others about wildlife conservation. Implementing both classic and modern embroidery techniques such as silk shading and lace designs, she brings both flora and fauna to life on fabric. By using sustainable and upcycled supplies to create her art, she hopes to lessen her footprint and make the Earth a better place for the life we create.
